Movie Screening: 50/50

HIS:So, we managed to get into the screening of the new movie "50/50" with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.

Overall, quite good. Slightly subdued, which is why it doesn't rate "excellent" -- on the other hand, it's a movie about a guy fighting cancer... so given the topic, I'm willing to give it a free upgrade. It was funny, touching, a little sad, but overall uplifting. Britney and I both did several "single tear" moments, but there was no outright blubbering at any point.

Britney has never been a fan of either actor, but the movie was actually good enough that she said she'd be willing to watch some of their back catalogs (this is high praise, you have no idea). If you or someone you love has made their way through cancer, I can see this becoming a top ten movie (assuming you aren't opposed to marijuana. As a Seth Rogen film AND a movie about cancer, yes, there is a lot of weed getting smoked. They keep it mostly tasteful.)

HERS: I loved the movie. I was surprised how much I liked it. I was not a fan of either actor but I think I will check out other movies (as Marc said). I honestly thought this movie was going to be insulting and in bad taste but it really wasn't. It was touching, humorous and thoughtful. Having dealt with a family member that had cancer this movie touched me deeper than otherwise would have. I don't want to go into too much detail but I would check this movie out. IMDB says it comes out September 30th so it's quite the wait but worth it.

I have noticed that since my dad passed I have had issues with mortality and watching this movie was a little hard. Marc says it was a single tear for both of us but I was fighting back some serious sobs at some points and if I ever watch this alone I would/will bawl like a baby. Despite that, like I said, this movie was well worth the watch :)

  1. I'm defs gonna see this at some point. I'm glad you're (potentially) turned around on those guys, Britney, they're both great (rogen i'll admit is debatable). Here's my recommendations.

    Seth Rogen stuff:
    Pineapple Express
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Freaks and Geeks (one of the greatest TV Series ever)

    JGL Stuff:
    Inception
    500 days of Summer
